Usually when you lose your job, you also lose they only steady source of income in your life. You might have something on the side which produces some money every now and then, but in the end you don’t really make that much money from it. This kind of income is not enough to live a nice life, and when you become unemployed, you will most likely need to find some way to finance your life.
The best way to proceed in a situation like this is to try to minimize all the expenses that you have in your life. Normally that would mean cancelling every recurring bills except the ones that you really need. These would include the electricity bill, gas bill and your rent. Don’t even think about keeping the cable tv or some luxurious services that you really can do yourself. Remember that if you don’t have a job you will have more time to do your laundry, mow the lawn and so on – you won’t have to outsource this any more. Becoming unemployed should not really affect your mentality, but you should keep yourself active and working – instead you will be working on yourself and your house and family a bit more.
If you have a lot of savings you don’t even need to find other financing for your time spent unemployed. This is because living as frugal as possible will allow that money to stretch like never before, and even with a few thousand dollars you can live for months if you know what you are doing. There are people who live with a lot less – they just have learnt how to not spend money on something that they don’t really need to survive.
Getting a loan during your time spent unemployed is always a risk, and you should try to avoid this until it is unavoidable. Even using your credit cards is not adviced. Usually people start using their credit cards when they realise that they will only have to pay the monthly fee for it, and after they have maxed it out they apply for another. This results in a lot of debt and after a few cards you will have too much monthly payments for you to cover. Don’t think that there is free money to be had, because when you are unemployed you are not going to be able to pay anything back like you used to.
